ながらも is different. It’s not about criticism. It’s about a surprising contradiction that exists at the same time. It’s like saying “He’s A, and yet, at the same time, he’s also B.” It’s more formal, more “written word” than “street,” but it shows respect for the facts. It’s acknowledging a complex situation.
You use this when two opposite facts are true about the same person or thing. “He’s a ruthless gangster, but he’s also a family man.” It shows that duality, like in The Godfather.
ながらも is like a dude who’s a stone-cold killer but at the same time cries during sad movies. He’s both. The grammar points out that both things are true, even though they don’t seem to add up.
