Aight, やや (yaya). This is the formal, written-word version of ちょっと (chotto) or 少し (sukoshi). It means “a little bit,” “somewhat.” You don’t say this on the block, you read this in a police report or a newspaper.
Common Situation: A news report: “The suspect is somewhat tall (容疑者はやや背が高い).” Or a formal assessment: “This plan is a little risky (この計画はやや危険だ).”
Metaphor: This is courtroom language. Your lawyer ain’t gonna say, “My client was kinda drunk.” He’s gonna say, “My client was somewhat intoxicated (やや酩酊していた).” It’s that clean, formal distance.
